Brian Cain

Director of Public Affairs Extraction Oil & Gas, Inc.

Brian Cain is director of public affairs for Extraction Oil & Gas, a Denver-based exploration and production company operating exclusively in the Denver-Julesburg basin of Colorado. In this role, he serves as company spokesman and directs government relations outreach. Cain began consulting for Extraction in 2014 when the company began significantly expanding its statewide operations and has overseen the communications and government relations aspects of the company’s permitting projects, as well as marketing the company’s October 2016 initial public offering, which at the time held the record for the most successful energy IPO since 2014.

Prior to his current role, Cain was a vice president in the energy practice of Hill & Knowlton Strategies, a global strategic communications and public affairs firm, where he advised some of the world’s largest energy companies on communications policy and media strategy, and was deployed to lead media affairs and government relations for crisis events across the United States.

Prior to that, Cain served as a senior public affairs advisor to Anadarko Petroleum, where he was one of two global spokesmen and managed communications for the company’s assets worldwide.

Before Anadarko, Cain served as global media spokesman and registered lobbyist for Chevron Phillips, one of the world’s largest petrochemical companies.

Cain began his career as a journalist. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and an MBA with concentrations in finance and general management from Tulane University. He is a 2019 Denver Business Journal 40 Under 40 winner.
